Photo Series
"Behind Me"
People are my favorite subject. The “Behind Me” series captures the texture of human beings at their rarest. It uses movement and paint to explore how the human body can be a tool for communication.
The Foreign Exchange
The Foreign Exchange, a client of Kompleks Creative, is a collective of North Carolina artists. In addition to the visual brand my company created for the group, I produced the album photography for “Leave it All Behind,” “Dear Friends: An Evening With The Foreign Exchange” and “The Ballad of Purple St. James” by YahZarah. The Kompleks team also designed the artwork for each album.
North Carolina Central University (NCCU) School of Law
As a portrait photographer for the NCCU School of Law, I shot commencement and special events, as well as publications. My documentation provided a unique perspective of the school’s personality and administration at the time. It was an amazing experience capturing judges, attorneys and legends of the industry, including former North Carolina Governor Jim Hunt and civil rights activist Vernon Jordan.
Justus League
The Justus League led the renaissance of North Carolina hip-hop in the early 2000s. It included a collective of groups and solo artists, including Little Brother, 9th Wonder and Chaundon (aka Fin the DJ). How did I get involved, you ask? Oh yeah, these guys were my buddies at NCCU. My portrait photography and album photography have been featured in national hip-hop magazines, including Vibe Magazine and Rolling Stone.
Film Photography
I started shooting film photography in the 1990s—it’s how I learned photography. I got back into film with the “Behind Me” series and it’s still one of my favorite forms of creative expression. I love the texture that the film provides and how everything doesn’t feel perfect. I’ve shot landscape photography, portrait photography and more.
